Slough looking to make further inroads with victory at Champion Hill

Slough Town travel to Dulwich Hamlet on Saturday, one of their main rivals for a play-off finish, looking to make amends for their home defeat to them back in February and make further inroads into the gap to the top seven.

With 10 league matches left to play Neil Baker and Jon Underwood certainly believe a late play-off push is possible and they're hoping to transfer that positive mindset to their squad.

The Rebels were beaten 2-1 by Hamlet at Arbour Park in early February but felt the visitors were somewhat lucky to come away with all three points. They'd dearly love to put that right in front of a large, partisan crowd at Champion Hill on Saturday and give their play-off kick real lift-off.

“Ideally we'd go to Dulwich and win, but if you don't lose, you're still in with a shout,” said Baker.

“Six points can be eradicated in two weeks and there's still a quarter of the season left.”

Slough's challenge in recent weeks has been built on their solid defence and never say die spirit. Against Maidstone on Saturday, they had to withstand some late pressure from the visitors to deservedly hold on for a 2-1 win (above). While on Tuesday evening, Scott Davies called Tuesday's 1-1 draw at Bath City the 'hardest earned point he's ever had to play for'. Davies fired the visitors ahead from the penalty spot just before half-time, but Bath were in the ascendancy for much of the game and deservedly equalised through Alex Fletcher 12 minutes from time.

Reflecting on the result at Bath, Baker added: “It was a tough evening. They were very good on the night and that's probably the toughest game we've had all season. I thought they were absolutely fantastic on the night; they did everything right and their manager said it’s probably their best performance since 2019.

“It was a backs-to-the-wall type of job, but I was delighted with our lads who battled and worked hard. We didn’t hold on for the win, and I can’t say that we deserved to hold on because we didn’t but it’s a great point. What it did is get us a point closer to the play-offs. That now becomes a realistic target. Six points with a quarter of the season left.

He added: “We've conceded just six goals in our last six games, and you'd take that because it always gives you a chance. I

“think we're having a good season in terms of where we are as a club, and we just want to keep interested in it for as long as we can.”
