‘Windsor can finish with unbeaten run’
Royalists move back into top 10 with win at Holyport
Luke Paris has stated Windsor’s objective in their remaining six of the games of the season should be to remain unbeaten, and the defender believes his side have the calibre to achieve that task.
Saturday’s 3-0 win at Holyport was the Royalists’ first since they took maximum points from Abbey Rangers in January with the result lifting them back into the top 10 of the Combined Counties Premier Division North.
Next up for Mark Cooper’s ninth-placed men is a home tie against lowly-placed CB Hounslow United before they face Reading City, a side which sit a spot above in the league table.
Paris is confident in Windsor’s chances of getting six points from these two fixtures, but the defender will likely be absent for them and away on international duty with Anguilla.
“I think the boys have shown the quality and the desire lately to get to the end of the campaign without losing,” he said.
“If we go into that game against Hounslow with the same intensity we had against Holyport, I think we can pick up another victory.
“We have six games left and, for me, the objective should be to remain unbeaten until the end of the season. We’ve got two favourable games coming up that we should pick up six points from. Unfortunately, I will probably miss them.”
On the Royalists’ clash at Summerleaze, Paris added: “Today was a convincing and much-needed win.
“It was a strong performance from the boys, and it was good
to get a clean sheet aswell – our first of the season which is crazy. We were on it from minute one right until the end. I’m proud of the team.
“We started strong, got the early goal, and then deservedly got the second. We probably could have been three or four up at half-time.
“When we played Edgware Town, we also went into the break at 2-0 up.
“It was a similar performance in that we started strong, but we made mistakes. We lost that game 3-2 somehow. So, it was important we were composed after the break.
“If we didn’t, it would have been backs against the wall, and to be honest, Holyport are a strong battling side. But, overall, our quality came through and got us to the finishing line.”
