Windsor hoping long rest period proves beneficial rather than detrimental
Windsor RFC will be hoping that a couple of weeks rest will prove beneficial rather than detrimental as they prepare to face Trowbridge at Home Park on Saturday.
Like most community clubs the Royals didn’t have a scheduled game last weekend, while Sherborne were awarded a home win over them on March 12 after several COVID cases in the camp prevented them from playing.
It means they’re still licking their wounds after a humbling 80-7 home defeat by Oxford Harlequins back on Saturday, March 5 – their heaviest defeat of the season – while recent results leave them fourth from bottom in the South West 1 East, just five points above second bottom Frome.
Windsor went down to a close defeat when they visited Trowbridge earlier in the season, losing 17-12.
In the Southern Counties North, Marlow will be desperate to get back to winning ways at Milton Keynes this Saturday after suffering a series of disappointing defeats.
Rory Greenslade-Jones’ side were dealt a third consecutive loss by Wallingford in their last match on March 12, going down 24-7 in a match that was closer than the scoreline suggests.
Their last win came against Reading Abbey back in February, but Greenslade-Jones will be determined for his side to finish this season on a positive note. They go to Milton Keynes looking to avenge their 17-11 home defeat to Keynes back in midDecember.
Elsewhere, Slough were in competitive action at the weekend when they remarkably overcame league leaders Bletchley, 22-18, on home turf.
Bletchley had lost only once all season in the Berks, Bucks and Oxon Premier Division prior to their visit to play the Greenies.
Despite the defeat they remain top of the table while Slough, who face Abingdon on Saturday, move up to sixth.
