‘Fresh start’ for Donkey Derby

-

BURNHAM: One of the highlights of the Burnham events calendar, the Donkey Derby, is back at Burnham Park this spring on Saturday, May 28 for the first time since 2019.

Organised by the Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches this year will be the 31st derby in the village and it comes with a difference.

Rotarian Claire Popple said: “It’s the ‘Almost Donkey Derby’ this year as we’re focusing more on other aspects of the day including offering more donkey rides than ever before.

“After a break of two years it’s time for a fresh start.

“When we took part in the Burnham Fete last year the donkey rides were the most popular part of the offering so we’re going to focus more on having fun and giving more of what people want.”

The event is expected to attract more than 2,500 visitors and will feature a funfair, food, an entertainment arena, stalls and more.

Held between 12pm and 5pm on the weekend before the Jubilee celebrations, it is hoped that everyone will go along and get in the community spirit of the day.

“We’ve got everything in place for a great day and we’re encouraging everyone to come out for a fun time,” added Claire.

“The only thing we can’t organise is the weather but after all this time apart we’re looking forward to the day so much. It’s going to be one big get together.”

Stall holders can still apply to take part in the day by filling out a form at: tinyurl.com/4327h5xr
