Approach to cemetery upkeep must improve

-

More than a year ago I called out RBWM and their councillors over the poor state of our cemeteries.

Recently, I asked the lead member to explain at full council how he planned to ensure that they were properly maintained.

I doubt that his response would have impressed many of your readers, especially those writing to you about the poor state of our cemeteries.

Conservatives in charge of RBWM are pursuing a progressive agenda on housing, infrastructure, regeneration etc but many residents will not judge them on these priorities.

They will decide on who to vote for based on ‘bread and butter’ issues such as the upkeep of our cemeteries.

For the moment some councillors seem to have lost sight of the fact that residents want to see demonstrable and immediate improvement at all RBWM cemeteries.

Few in the Royal Borough will be placated with ‘civil service’ type responses on this issue or calls for residents to contact their councillor to help out at their local burial ground.

I have no doubt that many of your readers will want to see a proper improvement plan for our cemeteries backed up with the right levels of investment, supervision and delivery.

I will continue to lobby for improvements to be implemented at all RBWM cemeteries. The issue is not going away without a step change in approach from this Conservative administration.
