Eagles soar in the play-offs
Maidenhead-based Eagles Senior team secured a place in Premier League 3 after a stunning weekend competing in the playoffs in Warwick.
They won all three group matches, and then beat Clan, 6632, in the final play-off match sparking scenes of celebration from the players, coaches, and spectators. This is the culmination of years of hard work, with Eagles having reached the playoffs on several occasions but never managing to gain a place in the higher division.
The Premier League is England Netball’s highest level for club teams so this marks a truly significant milestone for the club.
Eagles head coach Maria D’Amaro said “This has been a work in progress for many seasons; I’m elated with the performance that the girls displayed this weekend. It opens many playing opportunities for my talented pathway players to continue developing at a higher level.
Eagles qualified for the playoffs by winning the Netball South Division 1, and were joined by the winners from the other eight regions, as well as the bottom three teams from this season’s Premier League 3. As winners of their group, Eagles were drawn against fellow Netball South team Clan, with the winners gaining a place in Premier
League 3 next season. Although Clan finished eighth in the Premier League this season, Eagles were too strong and secured a victory by 66-32.
