Marlow blown away by Honourable Artillery Company during tricky spell

-

It’s proving to be an extremely challenging season for Marlow in the Regional 2 Thames League as the club fell to its eighth defeat of the season on Saturday.

Rory Greenslade-Jones’s (right) side initially found some form on their elevation to the division, winning four of their opening nine matches.

However, a 40-3 home defeat to Amersham & Chiltern has sparked a run of three matches without victory, the latest of those losses coming in a 48-7 loss to the Honourable Artillery

Company (HAC) at Riverwoods.

Marlow managed just one solitary try in the match as their visitors claimed a bonus point win to stay third in the division.

The result leaves Marlow in ninth place, a point above 10th placed Aylesbury, however, Greenslade-Jones’s men are still on course for survival and that would be a creditable outcome this season.

This Saturday they travel to sixth-placed Chobham looking for their first win since November 11, when new signing Apisai Deucu inspired the side to a 34-28 win over

Aylesbury at Ostler’s Field.

Defeats have since followed to the leaders Amersham, fourth-placed Hemel Hempstead, and HAC in third, and with away trips to come to Chobham and second placed Belsize Park, in their first game after the Christmas break on January 6, this has to be considered one of their most challenging periods in the season.

Windsor, meanwhile, continue to churn out the victories in the Counties 1

Tribute Southern North.

Saturday’s convincing 34-12 win at fourth-placed Grove must go down as one of their best of the season and it keeps Andy Symons’ side in touch with leaders Beaconsfield.

It was their seventh league win in a row; however, they still trail Beaconsfield by 14 points with the leaders having made a flawless start to the season – winning all 12 of their matches so far.

Windsor will expect to round off the year on a high when they host Bicester at Home Park this Saturday.
