Goddard named division's player of the month
Slough Town midfielder Johnny Goddard has won the Vanarama National League South player of the month award for November.
The Rebels midfielder has been in fine form for the club this season, scoring eight goals in his 14 appearances in all competitions.
However, his performances stepped up a level in November as he scored four goals in six games, helping the side climb the National League South table and advance in the FA Trophy.
He was also part of the side that held League 2 Grimsby Town to a 1-1 draw at Arbour Park in the first round of the FA Cup.
They later exited the competition following a 7-2 replay defeat at Blundell Park but not before Goddard had assisted David Ogbonna’s equaliser in the first half. His haul of goals also included two stunning free kicks in the 3-4 league defeat at Welling United and the 2-1 FA Trophy win over Farnborough, his strike sealing the club’s win and progression to the third round.
Having been a substitute for the club’s 4-0 win over Truro City in early November, he came back into the side and played a major role in the league wins over Havant & Waterlooville (2-1) and Braintree Town (3-0) toward the end of the month.
He scored in both matches to help his side climb to 19th in the table, two points outside of the relegation zone with games in hand on the sides around them.
Player/manager Scott Davies called Goddard a ‘magician’ on X this morning (Wednesday) and said he was ‘over the moon’ with his win.
“Fully deserved after a brilliant start to the season for him personally,” he said. “Well done mate.”
