South Reading cut the gap on league leaders with narrow victory at Tigers

South Reading made it six wins in a row in all competitions after a 5-4 victory at Reading Tigers in the East Berkshire League Division One on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

The Reading-based team have been in incredible form in recent weeks which includes progress in both the Berks & Bucks F.A. David Grange Trophy and the E.B.F.L Presidents Cup.

And this most recent success in the League has seen the newcomers cut the gap on Division One leaders, FC Baylis United to two points. South Reading have also played four games fewer than the table toppers.

South Reading beat Reading Tigers in a nine-goal thriller at Calcot Recreation Ground with Barry Elmore,

Liam Shurvill, Rayden Shurvill and Thomas Shares all amongst the scorers for the victors.

The Tigers are just below mid-table and came close to upsetting the title challenges thanks to goals from Jaroslaw Michalowski, Jack Bojda, Oskar Sieg and Daniel Amponsah.

AFC Cressex were relegated from the Premier Division last season but moved into the promotion places in the second tier for the first time in this campaign thanks to a 2-1 home success over bottom side and point-less, FC Riverside.

Two goals in the first half from Bruno Jeffery secured all three points for the hosts at Holmers Farm Recreation Ground.

Old Windsor Reserves stand in fourth position and only three points behind the leaders after a 6-1 victory at Eton Wick - the losers remaining in 10th place. Sean Blandford was the star on show at Haywards Mead with a hat-trick for The Tigers, whilst substitute Sam Thomson hit the back of the net twice and a further goal from Mark Beale. The Wick consolation effort came from Mike Bevan.

AFC Reading missed the chance to close the gap on the promotion spots after being held to a goalless draw at third-bottom Stoke Poges Reserves the last team to beat South Reading back in early October.

Berks Elite continued their fine form in Cup competitions this season with a 2-0 home win against Real Saracens to reach the Semi Finals in the Presidents Cup. The goals at Aldermaston Recreational Society came either side of the break from Mate Corbu and Oliver Schafer.

Virginia Water Reserves have reached the Semi Finals in the Slough Town Premier Cup following a 2-1 win after extra time at Britwell - the tie finished goalless after 90 minutes at the Chicken Ranch. Goals from both Sam Blakebrough and Brandon Sewell secured The Water a spot in the final four, while Charlie Graves hit the target for Britwell.
