GoodGym group get fit while helping others

-

A group who walk, run or cycle to a location to help the community with a range of projects kicked off its regular sessions in Windsor.

GoodGym Windsor and Maidenhead has launched its regularly weekly sessions in Windsor, which will take place from 6.15pm every Thursday.

The group, which is free to join, sees volunteers meet at a point in the town, ready to walk, run or cycle to the location of where the community work is taking place, before then completing a short fitness session.

Starting on Thursday, January 4, a dozen volunteers turned out for the first of the regular Windsor sessions.

Meeting outside Boots in Dedworth Road, volunteers braved the rain to run, walk or cycle to the Spencer Denney Centre in Park Corner, where they helped to put away the Christmas decorations and tidy up the plants.

Windsor resident and GoodGym Windsor taskforce member Mandy Driver, said: “The first one was amazing.

“It was really good.

“It was a really lovely group and everybody said at the end, it was so friendly, so chatty.

“I was really pleased with it, actually I was a bit overwhelmed.”

Discussing the GoodGym initiative, Mandy added: “[It’s] something that's really good for the individual person’s fitness and wellbeing, but also it's helping the community at the same time.”

She added that as the group in Windsor grows, she would like to add more sessions, including daytime and weekend sessions.

Mandy has called for any nonprofit organisations, including schools and community groups to get in touch if they have any tasks in Windsor that volunteers could help with.
