Catt devastated by side's loss to Holyport Reserves

-

A defeat to Holyport Reserves on Saturday has left Windsor & Eton ‘devastated’, according to captain Ben Catt, as the side slipped to third place in the Thames Valley Premier League.

Goals from Jemel Johnson and Fiifi Carter weren’t enough for Matt Angell’s men to seize victory this weekend as a slick Holyport Reserves outfit, comprised of several first-team players, triumphed 3-2 at Stag Meadow.

To add insult to injury for Windsor & Eton, league leaders Westwood Wanderers dropped points as they were beaten 2-1 by Finchampstead at Denefield School.

“It was disappointing not to get the result that we were after,” said skipper Catt. “It is fortunate that Westwood Wanderers dropped points in their game against Finchampstead, but we are all devastated as we missed a chance to close the gap on the league leaders.

“We had a good 15minute spell at the start and at the end of the game, however, it wasn’t a good enough performance across the full 90 minutes, which cost us.

“Holyport are a good team, and we knew before the game that we would have to be at our best to get three points. However, we didn’t perform to our usual standards.

“There were a few first-team Holyport players in the squad, which was obviously going to make the game harder, but we are more than capable to win any match.”

Windsor & Eton now have time to lick their wounds as they won’t be in any form of competitive action until the end of the month.

“We face Burghfield in the semi-final of the Berks & Bucks Charles Twelftree Trophy at Stag Meadow on January 27,” said Catt. “This will be the third time playing Burghfield and, as always, it will be a tough game. This week at training our focus has been retention of the ball and analysing the game against Holyport.”
