Appeal after driver dies in M4 collision

Police arrest man, 24, on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a car crash on the M4 near Slough on Wednesday, writes Anaka Nair.

The drivers of a white Peugeot Boxer van and a silver Ford C-Max were involved in a collision on the eastbound carriagewa­y between Junction 6 near Slough and Junction 5 near Langley at around 3.15pm on January 17.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his sixties, died from his injuries.

Tyne was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released under investigat­ion.

Senior investigat­ing officer Investigat­ions Lead Richard Thorpe, of the Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit, said: “We are investigat­ing this collision in which a man has sadly died.

“Our condolence­s and thoughts are with their loved ones.

“The man’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We are appealing for anyone with dash-cam footage or witness informatio­n to please come forward and call 101 or reporting online, quoting reference 4324002527­1.

“We would like to thank the public for their patience while we conducted our enquiries.”

The M4 was closed eastbound between Junctions 6 and Junction 5 from 3pm on Wednesday as recovery and a police investigat­ion took place.

Road users were diverted via the A355 and A4 using road signs while 90 minutes of delays and more than three miles of congestion on approach back towards Junction 6 were reported throughout the evening.

All traffic officers and emergency services including the air ambulance attended the scene with Thames Valley Police leading the response.

Fire crews from Slough, Windsor and Langley were called to the scene at approximat­ely 3.15pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The Thames Valley Police Road Policing Unit conducted investigat­ion work at the scene late into the night and from 1am, emergency resurfacin­g and extensive clean-up works were in operation into the early hours of Thursday morning.

The carriagewa­y reopened at approximat­ely 7am yesterday and National Highways thanked road users for their patience during the closure.
