A domestic abuser who left a woman requiring hospital treatment after strangling and punching her in a vicious attack has been jailed for 18 months.

Michal Wojdyla, of Woodstock Close, Maidenhead, attacked his victim, a woman in her late 20s, when she returned to her home in Slough on June 17.

The 40-year-old strangled and punched the woman in the face, pulled her hair and threw eggs and cat litter at her.

He then damaged possessions in the home, threw a table at the woman and ripped her shirt. After this, he left in her car having threatened to kill her.

The woman suffered injuries to her eye, ear, as well as bruising to her neck and body.

She was admitted to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

Police arrested Wojdyla on June 26 and he later pleaded guilty to one count each of intentional strangulation, actual bodily harm and criminal damage on November 8.

He appeared for sentencing at Reading Crown Court on Friday (January 12) where he received an 18-month jail term and a five-year restraining order. An additional charge of taking a vehicle without consent remains on file.

Investigating officer PC Matthew Denty said: “This was a violent and distressing incident of domestic violence which occurred because the offender was jealous and controlling.

“I am pleased that Wojdyla has been sentenced and I hope the result demonstrates that domestic violence will not be tolerated at any level and Thames Valley Police will investigate thoroughly and

support victims.

“I hope that the victim, who has been incredibly brave and supportive throughout the proceedings, has some closure from the conclusion of this case.

“I would also like to thank

the witnesses that also supported the victim and provided statements to the police, which allowed us to present a strong case to the Crown Prosecution Service and in turn led to a guilty plea.”
