Seahawks swoop for overtime and shootout victories over unlucky Bees

-

The TSI World Bees played out a couple of extremely tight but exciting games against the Hull Seahawks this weekend, losing the first match 6-5 after overtime, before going down 3-2 at the Slough Ice Arena following a penalty shootout.

The teams traded blows in a thrilling game in Hull on Saturday, with Dominik Gabaj's side losing by the narrowest of margins in overtime.

And it took a shootout to separate the teams on home ice on Sunday.

The Bees took the lead when Ed Bradley's sneaky shot managed to creep inside the post to make it 1-0 at 13.33 with the assist going to Brendan Baird. However, the tit for tat nature of their recent clashes continued with Finley Ulrick cancelling it out to make it 1-1 at 16.27.

The period ended 1-1 apiece, however, the Bees appeared to be in the ascendancy and a similar pattern of play developed in the second period. Ulrick was forced to sit out a two-minute penalty for high sticks, but again the visitors were able to kill the penalty without conceding. Thomas Stubley was then sinbinned for tripping and a massive improvement by the hosts during this power play saw them create, but fail to take, several good chances.

Having survived this passage of play, it was the Seahawks turn to ramp up the pressure when a penalty was called against Aiden Doughty for 2 Boarding. However, the Bees were also able to return to full strength without the visitors taking advantage.

At that moment, the Seahawks took advantage of a small slip in the Bees concentration, and they managed to scramble the puck into the back of the net through Brock Bartholomew.

But with less than two minutes to go until the second interval, Marcel Balaz made it 2-2 with an unassisted goal in at 39.08. The third period was extremely tight, with defences very much on top of the offence. A few chances were created by both teams but neither had the composure to take one of them and the game went to a penalty shootout.

Josh Smith scored for the Bees and Bobby Chamberlain, Emil Svec and Brock Bartholomew netted for the Seahawks who secured victory and a crucial second point.
