Scott Davies thanks ‘everyone for their support’ after signing new contract

-

Scott Davies thanked ‘everyone who has supported him’ over the past 14 months after signing a new contract that will see him remain as Rebels boss until June 2026.

Davies took on the role as player manager following the departure of Neil Baker and Jon Underwood in November 2022, and, after a turbulent period both on and off the field, he guided the Rebels to safety in the final weeks of the 2022/23 season.

The second half of the campaign brought improved form for the Rebels and an unbeaten seven-game streak, while memorable wins were also secured against Hungerford Town and Cippenham Town.

Off the field, the club's future was secured by the completion of the takeover by the A23 Football Ltd Group, and the Rebels' fortunes have also improved on the field this season, despite a rocky start to the campaign.

Six defeats in seven matches left the Rebels in the relegation zone, however, their form since then has been that of promotion contenders and Saturday's 2-1 win over Maidstone United moved the side as high as 11th before the 1-1 draw at Worthing on Tuesday saw them drop back to 12th.

They haven't lost in 15 matches at home in all competitions and progressed to the first round of the FA Cup, where they took League 2 side Grimsby Town to a replay following an impressive 1-1 draw with the Mariners at Arbour Park. They are currently one of the form sides in the division and are the third highest scorers in the league this season.

Davies said: “The supporters have been fantastic to me, as a player and a manager. Each week they turn out in their numbers and no matter the result, we can always rely on them to be present.

“As for the players, they’ve been absolutely brilliant over the past few months and thanks to them we’ve found ourselves in a superb position in the league, along with the memories of the FA Cup and what that brought to the club.

"I’m over the moon to extend my stay and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be. Having been at the club for just under 6 years now, it’s a place that I call home. I’m comfortable in my surroundings but that doesn’t mean for one second that I’ll take my foot of the gas, it’ll make me work even harder.

"The board of directors and I know where we want to be and what our objectives are, so between now and the summer of 2026 I’ll do my utmost to bring success to the club and make it a place that the fans can be even more proud of.”
