Matching volunteers to roles
A charity in Slough has launched a new matching service designed to improve access to volunteer opportunities in and around the town.
The #OneSlough Volunteering platform, from Slough Council for Voluntary Service (SCVS), simplifies application processes by matching people’s skills and interests with available roles.
SCVS celebrated its 90-year anniversary lasst year and supports the Slough volunteer community through networking, training and helping organisations to find sources of funding.
Operations director at SCVS, Vicki Atherton said: “We are thrilled to introduce the #OneSlough Volunteering platform, which we believe will change the way residents are able to get involved with a wide range of organisations, to actively engage in volunteering.”
“Volunteering should be a fulfilling experience, which has so many benefits for individuals, and our new platform is designed to make it accessible for everyone in Slough.”
Some of roles on offer include: a reading mentor for primary school children at ABC Read; and a tech buddy at Berkshire Vision, a charity supporting visually impaired people.
Slough Anti-Litter Society is seeking a litter pick co-ordinator and there is also opportunity to help Home Start Slough, a charity supporting vulnerable families, as a home visitor.
Tagreed Ismail, Volunteer Manager, SCVS said: “We are looking for people from all walks of life in Slough as this brings a rich diversity of skills and experience.
“We have training available and there are so many reasons why people volunteer: perhaps it’s for the social aspect of meeting new people, learning new skills, building confidence, or sharing knowledge.
“We are always looking for people with community languages.
“Volunteering improves your health and wellbeing and gets you involved in a cause that you are passionate about.”
