Scott gives credit to 'determined' Dover
Scott Davies was keen to give credit to Dover Athletic after the side condemned Slough Town to their 11th defeat of the National League South season at the weekend.
The Whites – now sitting 23rd in the table on goal difference – won 1-0 on Saturday with George Nikaj finding the back of the net a little over five minutes from full-time.
This marks the second time Jake Leberl’s men have got the better of the Rebels this season as they triumphed 2-1 at Arbour Park on Saturday, August 12.
“Listen, they will be delighted they’ve taken another three points from us,” said Davies. “They’re an honest bunch. They ran hard, they fought for everything, they won a few more second balls than us and used them a little bit better.
“We had chances – Slavi’s one springs to mind, and David has had a few goes – but when Dover won the ball back, they didn’t complicate things, they spun the ball in behind and they got down the sides well.
“The pitch was a bit of a bog but both teams have had to play on it.
It’s just difficult to find that moment of quality. I thought the game would be decided by a mistake or a set piece.”
Davies added: “It was a horrible one to concede. Dan (Lincoln) has dropped the ball, and their striker has scuffed it in. I am gutted at the moment because it feels like an opportunity missed. If we had taken one of our chances early doors, then we probably go away winning 1-0 or at worst draw 0-0.
“Thanks to the fans
[for coming] and we’re sorry they have to go home with the result we’ve got. But we can’t apologise for every game. It’s football, we are going to lose matches.”
After losing 3-1 to leaders Yeovil Town on Tuesday evening, the Rebels are back at Arbour Park this Saturday for the visit of Westonsuper-Mare.
The Rebels are currently 13th in the table and still only five points off the play-off places.
