Messages of support for King Charles have been shared online after Buckingham Palace announced the monarch has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

Following his treatment for a benign prostate enlargement last week, doctors undertook separate tests which led to a ‘form of cancer’ being diagnosed, for which the monarch is currently undergoing treatment.

The Palace has not specified the type of cancer, but said the King will be postponing public-facing duties and chose to share his diagnosis to ‘assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer’.

Labour MP for Slough, Tan Dhesi said he was ‘sad to hear about the cancer diagnosis of King Charles’ in a message on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night.

Mr Dhesi added: “Having had family members who have battled with the condition, it’s indeed a very difficult time for all, so my thoughts also with the Royal Family.

“Wishing the best during the treatment and hoping for his speedy recovery.”

Theresa May, Conservative MP for Maidenhead, shared her ‘thoughts and prayers’ with King Charles following his cancer diagnosis on Tuesday.

In a statement, she said: “My thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty the King and the entire Royal Family following the news of His Majesty’s diagnosis.

“I have written to His Majesty to convey my best wishes on behalf of my Maidenhead Constituents.

“I know my constituents across Maidenhead will be joining the millions of people from across the UK and Commonwealth in wishing the King a full and swift recovery.” The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, Councillor Neil

Knowles tweeted: “My thoughts and prayers are with HM the King and his family. Wishing him a speedy recovery.”

Conservative MP for Windsor, Adam Afriyie commended His Majesty's ‘openness’ in sharing the news publicly.

He said: “My thoughts and prayers are with the King and his family at this challenging time.

“A cancer diagnosis is usually a private family matter for most people, and I commend His Majesty’s openness, which I hope will be heartening for so many people in a similar position.”

Buckingham Palace announced King Charles’ cancer diagnosis in the following statement on Monday (February 5):

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

“His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

“His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
