Munashe thanks Slough supporters

Midfielder leaves to join promotion hopefuls Tamworth

-

Munashe Sundire took the time to thank Slough Town’s supporters this week after his departure from the club was announced on Monday, the midfielder joining National League North outfit Tamworth following a seven-day approach.

Being 27 years old, Sundire has a strong determination to continuously grow and advance in his career. So, when the Lambs, who are currently vying for the title, came knocking at his door, he felt compelled to seize the opportunity.

Having joined the Rebels in

June last year, following his exit from St Albans City, the midfielder featured 26 times in the colours of amber and blue, scoring twice and assisting five goals.

While he will be a significant miss for player/manager Scott Davies, his absence will also be keenly felt by fans at Arbour

Park.

This week, Sundire wanted to share his appreciation for them as he said to the Express: “The fans at Arbour Park are something special – they took a liking to me very early on. Every week, because I knew the love and appreciation they had for me, I tried to put it all on the line and leave everything out there to get the three points. I can’t thank them enough because they played a massive part in me really loving football again.

“I’ve always loved football, don’t get me wrong, but I had a spell last year where I was injuryridden, having problems with my hamstring, my calf, and my mindset started shifting where I started to think, my love for the game might go here.

“In the summer, I had quite a few offers, financially-flattering offers too, but I felt like coming to Slough was exactly what I needed. I spoke to Scotty, I spoke to Yella, and I spoke to Jeff who was there earlier on and just had a real gut feeling for working with those guys. I made the right decision in the end because within the first couple of weeks, I felt re-ignited, I was back on track.

“It’s been an absolute pleasure to play for Slough Town. It’s been my favourite footballing chapter so far and honestly, the memories and moments, the love I felt from the supporters, these are things that I will cherish forever. I will always look back at my time fondly and maybe we’ll cross paths again one day.

“It’s so tough to leave somewhere that you’re so loved and appreciated, and a place you love a lot aswell. You do think ‘Am I going to get that love elsewhere?’ or ‘Am I going to enjoy it the same?’. It was a really hard decision to make, I had to go back and forth multiple times in my head, but ultimately, I think I may have regretted it in the future if I hadn’t gone. I always want to try and progress my career.”

Sundire shouldn’t be out of his depth at Tamworth as he is set to unite with Nathan Tshikuna, Ben Acquaye, Lindon Meikle, and captain Ben Milnes – people he’s familiar with having either grown up with them or played alongside them earlier in his career.

“Nathan and Ben are from Milton Keynes, where I’m from, and we usually do sessions and train together in pre-season. Lindon and the other Ben, I played with at Kettering many years ago.”
