Windsor ground Oxhey Jets to hand Haylock first win as Royalists boss

-

It's been a good week for Windsor FC, who brought an end to their four-game losing streak with a 1-0 win at Oxhey Jets on Saturday, before announcing the appointment of a new assistant manager, Russell Taylor.

Four defeats over December and January had dragged the Royalists closer to the Combined Counties Division 1 drop zone, however, on Saturday, they bounced back in fine style with an injury-time winner to ground the Jets.

Substitute Ryan Delaney was the man who came off the bench to grab the winner for Garry Haylock's side and saw him secure his first points since taking over as Windsor boss.

Windsor had conceded at least three goals in each of the matches Haylock had taken charge of so far, with the side losing 3-0 at home to Yateley, 5-3 at Berks County and 3-0 against Westside at Holloways Park. However, they were much more compact against Oxhey on Saturday to come away with a restorative three points.

Speaking after taking charge, Haylock said his job at Windsor was twofold, to progress young players and develop their game in senior football while also looking to pick up results.

After less than a month in charge that may now be starting to bear fruit, with the Royalists in 17th place, now six points above the drop zone in Division 1.

He'll also have a new voice to listen to on the sidelines now after the appointment of Russell Taylor as assistant manager.

Russell joins the club from Virginia Water where he had a spell as reserve team boss.

During his time at Virginia Water, he helped successfully develop several young players, providing a pathway to the first team and senior football and now he hopes to do something similar at Windsor.

Russell started his coaching career with Windsor FC u18s, working under Andy Smith, Brian Joseph, and Jack Peter during his first spell at the club.

He then moved to Old Windsor and helped lay down the foundations for their recent success.

In his first season as manager, he led the club to their first ever East Berkshire Premier League title, with the side going undefeated.
