School want to demolish house for classrooms

-

The Westgate School in Slough is looking to demolish a house to the east of its main site with a view to provide six more classrooms.

The plan is to get rid of a small ‘dilapidated’ mid-century threebedroom home at 159 Cippenham Lane, the plot of the former caretaker’s house.

This is next door to ACF (Army Cadet Force) Cippenham and across the street from The Long Barn pub. Number 159 would be redeveloped and undertake a change of use to become a ‘tailored provision’ of ‘six classrooms of various sizes’.

The buildings ‘are required’ to deliver flexible teaching space that could be used for small groups or one-to-one teaching, and for pupils with special educational needs.

The school anticipates that the spaces will be used for purposes such as isolating disruptive students and providing one-to-one support away from the busy main school buildings.

It believes there is a ‘shortfall in teaching space for children that require additional support.’

The auxiliary classrooms will benefit from a landscaped ‘picnic area’ created between the classrooms for outdoor packed lunches and ‘will create a quiet outlook for many classrooms.’

Included would also be a separate overseers office and a larger ‘multipurpose’ teaching/dining hall with office space and toilets, alongside landscaping works.

Additions include a passageway alongside the site allowing students to exit the main school via Cippenham Lane. There will also be a vehicle access in the event of an emergency.

Primrose Projects (London) Limited will be handling the demolition. The company is to display a site notice on or near to the land letting the public know and will leave it in in place for ‘not less than 21 days’.

The applicant ‘intends to start the demolition works when [planning] determination is reached.’
