Talking trade at networking event

More than 60 entrepreneurs and representatives from the world of business gathered at the offices of a Slough radio station for a free networking event.

Asian Star Radio, based in the Queensmere Observatory Shopping Centre, collaborated with Slough BID (Business Improvement District) to deliver the event, which looked to bring business professionals together to create opportunities for further networking and trade.

From 11am to 2pm on Thursday, February 8, guests networked and exchanged business cards and details.

The event kicked off with introductions from Ray Siddique, managing director at Asian Star Radio and one of the directors at Slough BID, and Clarissa Parker, the managing director of Slough BID. Ray said: “The networking event was absolutely fantastic.

“We had an overwhelming response. Lots of different people from different backgrounds and businesses, and entrepreneurs turned up.

“It was just a great session.”

Ray explained this is the first networking event the station and Slough BID has collaborated on and added attendance exceeded expectations. The event’s keynote speaker was Tarun Ghulati, who is currently standing as an independent candidate running for Mayor of London.

Mr Ghulati gave a speech on his background in business and spoke briefly about why he is standing as a candidate in the Mayoral race.

Ray added that the businesses and entrepreneurs at the event were largely from the Slough area, but there were attendees from surrounding areas, including Maidenhead.

“There’s nothing like the old-fashioned way of meeting people face-to-face.

“I think that is the USP getting out and meeting people, networking,” Ray said.

Asian Star Radio will officially celebrate its 17th year on air on Tuesday, March 12.

To mark the occasion, a cake was cut at the networking event for all attendees to enjoy a slice.

Reflecting on the last 17 years, Ray said it has been a ‘rollercoaster’ but added the station has established a good customer base and continues to work with charities and fellow not-for-profit organisations.
