Wins are like ‘bloody buses’ for Windsor as they get the better of Bagshot

-

Windsor's director of football, Kevin Stott, was in the mood to paraphrase one of the nation's favourite poets after Windsor's latest win over Bagshot on Saturday.

The Royalists secured their first win under new boss Garry Haylock against Oxhey Jets last week, winning 1-0, and they repeated the trick at the weekend to beat Bagshot by the same scoreline.

'Bloody wins are like bloody buses, you wait forever for one and then two come along at once, joked Stott this week, referencing one of Wendy Cope's most famous poems.

Having not kept a clean sheet all season, the Royalists now have two in a row and this 'six-pointer' puts Windsor nine

points clear of Bagshot who sit third from bottom in potentially the last of the Combined Counties League 1 relegation spots.

The Royalists started the game without the creative services of 17-year-old Max Jarzabek but Pavel Ivanov - on the back of last week’s man of the match performance - stepped into his boots with consummate ease.

At a wet and muddy Krooner Park pitch Windsor took time to come to terms with the uneven surface which made any thoughts of their preferred passing game out of the question. This probably favoured the home side who are used to such conditions and have adapted their game to suit.

Windsor have made a bad habit of conceding early goals this season but in the last two games their well-executed 3-5-2 formation has meant that on both occasions they’ve gone in at half time with the score at nil – nil. In truth the first half was more of a battle with the pitch than the opposition with both sides limited to half chances from long balls into the channels.

As the second half wore on, Windsor’s superior fitness started to pay dividends which was further supported by Garry Haylock’s astute use of all 5 substitutes. It was one of those substitutions that would pay the ultimate dividend when Omar Miller-Talaste on for the luckless Georg Gudjohnsen in the 80th minute took just 5 minutes to make his mark. A long ball into the left-hand channel fell between Bagshot’s centre half Lee Banbury and goalkeeper Tiago Santos-David which both players failed to deal with and as the ball held up in the mud the Windsor forward had the easiest of chances to nip in between them and pass the ball into the empty net.

A frenetic final 10 minutes saw Bagshot fail to take advantage of back-to-back corners with Cairo Richards in the Windsor goal punching clear on several occasions when never really under pressure.
