Windsor Yards car park will be ‘best in the borough’

-

The multi-storey Windsor Yards car park will be ‘the best in the borough’ once improvement works are completed in October, according to the town manager.

Parking operator Q-Park took over the running of the facility, formerly known as King Edward Court car park, last year.

The company is investing £2million to modernise the car park by introducing its own Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) system and an online prebooking service.

LED sensor lighting is planned in the darker lower levels of the car park while 13 EV charging points have already been installed.

Paul Roach, Windsor and Eton town manager, said: “Anybody who has been in the new Q-Parks in London know they have an exemplary standard of car parks.

“They’re doing the top three or four floors currently. There’s a little bit of discomfort but they are investing quite a sizable chunk of money.

“It will be the best in the borough once it is finished.”

A spokesman for Q-Park said: “We are investing £2million to improve, modernise and bring the facility up to our usual standards that our customers see across the country.

“The works are very extensive initially begin with concrete and structural repairs, once these are completed there will be new floor coating and all walls/pillars will be repainted.

“The works are being undertaken a section of the car park at a time with full completion expected in October 2024.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused whilst these works continue.”

An update on the longawaited redevelopment of the Windsor Yards shopping area is expected in the coming months.

Planning permission was secured in April 2023 for the partial redevelopment of the site which could see the introduction of a boutique cinema, a new office building and an apart-hotel with 103 rooms.

The town manager added: “There will be something coming forward in the coming months to give us an idea of when the main works to the shopping centre are likely to start.

“Fingers crossed that will be in the first half of the year.

“With the cost of materials and the cost-of-living, a lot of developers are having to re-think and re-do their plans.”
