Rebels team up with hospice for charity day

- Slough Town FC

Slough Town FC is teaming up with Thames Hospice to help boost awareness and support with the Rebels’ game against Bath City on Saturday, March 2 becoming a designated charity day with various fundraising activities taking place.

Thames Hospice has been proudly serving the community of East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire since 1987, providing special palliative and end-of-life care services to people aged 16 and over in their own homes and within the hospice, as well as vital support for their families.

Their services are free of charge to those in the local community who need access to their vital services, but this is only made possible through the charitable support and generosity of the community it serves.

Situated on Windsor Road, between Slough and Maidenhead, the hospice’s highly experienced staff work with patients and their loved ones to develop a complete programme of care tailored to their needs, treating everyone with dignity and respect.

They offer a wide range of clinical and therapeutic services, including counselling and bereavement support, complimentary therapies, physiotherapy and lymphoedema services.

A café is at the hospice which serves a selection of hot and cold food and beverages with all profits helping fund their care.

Thames Hospice also generates vital income from its 22 charity shops located across the Thames Valley. Members of their retail teams will be attending Slough Town’s match against Bath City and collecting donations of good quality clothing and accessories to help stock their stores.

Nursing colleagues from their Hospice at Home team will too be present on the day to talk about their work aswell as some of their ambassadors who are keen to share their own experiences of the care and support they have received from the hospice.

Fundraising activities on March 2 will include half-time fun for children and post-match events for adults. The Rebels will also be donning a one-off kit featuring the colours and logo of Thames Hospice which will be raffled off at the end of the game.

Ade Gomm, community manager, said:

“It gives us great pleasure to work with this fantastic local charity which does such fantastic work in our community. We are using this event to raise awareness, letting the residents of Slough know that vital help and support is available for families facing a life-limited diagnosis.

“There will also be a small group of players and management from the club who will be visiting the hospice the week before the game to meet the staff and see firsthand the good work they do.

“We would like to thank the National League and our home shirt sponsors – Verus Group, Speedy Freight, and Futureproof – for their help and support with this one-off kit change.”
