Windsor make it three away victories in a row with Westside success

-

Mackenzie Rand-Brade scored a ninthminute winner as Windsor completed a hat-trick of 1-0 away successes with a 1-0 victory over Westside on Wednesday evening.

Garry Haylock’s side have looked more resolute of late, particularly away from Holloways Park, having also claimed narrow 1-0 wins over Oxhey Jets and Bagshot.

Windsor’s home form hasn’t been quite so assured with Haylock’s side beaten in their past four matches at Holloways Park, the most recent coming against Penn & Tylers Green on February 17.

Credit for Wednesday’s result must also go to Tony Hurrell and the ground staff of Colliers Wood United for maintaining an exceptional playing surface despite the challenging weather conditions.

Windsor started brightly and had the better of the early chances in a game that ebbed and flowed in a sea saw of end-to-end missed chances - in truth had the first half ended with 3 goals apiece it would have come as no surprise. As it was the only goal of the game came from a more difficult chance and a sublime finish from Rand- Brade. The ball fell to him on the edge of the penalty area and despite being surrounded by a sea of defenders he created the space to smash the ball high into the top left-hand corner of the net.

Westside could consider themselves unfortunate when Tevon Webster smashed the ball against the underside of the Windsor crossbar following a goalmouth scramble in the 35th minute. The ever-reliable Alex Peapell managed to hack the ball clear.

The second half continued as the first half ended, with myriad chances at both ends. Windsor had perhaps the better of them but were thwarted by a string of exceptional saves from Seb Hunt in the Westside goal. One save from Alessandro Peliccia’s curling shot in the 75th minute drew warm applause from the crowd. In truth, either side could have won this game and on the balance of play Westside can count themselves unfortunate not to pick up at least a point, however - having conceded 89 goals in the league this season, three straight away clean sheets and victories is testament to the work being done in training by new Windsor boss Haylock and his coaching team.

Windsor still have 11 games to play this season, starting at FC Deportivo Galicia on Saturday (March 2). Seven of those are away from home, however this resolute Windsor team won't mind that at all given their current form.
