Students perform for royalty
Students at St George’s School, Windsor Castle performed for Greek royalty at a special memorial service last week.
The young choristers of St George’s Chapel sang at the Thanksgiving Service for the
Life of His Majesty King Constantine II of the Hellenes on Tuesday, February 27.
The event was attended by Her Majesty Queen Camilla and members of the British Royal Family as well as international royals including Her Majesty Queen Anne-Marie, former
Queen of the Hellenes, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Pavlos.
The service in the Nave of St George’s Chapel was given by the Dean of Windsor, The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth.
A spokesperson at the boarding and day prep school said ‘it was an honour for [its] students to be involved in [the] service for King Constantine II at Windsor Castle’.
They said the service was of ‘particular and poignant significance’ to St George's School Windsor Castle due to King Constantine’s founding involvement with Round Square - a global schools network and ‘pioneering movement in education’ which St George’s School, Windsor Castle joined last year.
His Majesty King Constantine chaired the first meeting of the seven schools that would form the Round Square movement, and his close involvement continued, as Chair, and later as President of Round Square.
Activities which St George's School, Windsor Castle continues to benefit from today include international conferences, service projects, exchange visits and classroom collaborations.
The late Constantine II, who was forced into exile as the last monarch of Greece, died aged 82 on January 10, 2023, and was Prince William's godfather, and King Charles' second cousin.
