‘Perfect setting’ for Forces event

-

An Armed Forces Day event will be taking place this June as part of the Windsor and Eton Rotary club’s Summer Fair.

This year, the long-standing fair and duck race will also include the Royal Borough’s Armed Forces Day event on Saturday, June 29 in Alexandra Gardens.

Visitors will be able to enjoy bands, stalls, and displays throughout the day, which will culminate with the popular duck race.

As part of the event, veteran visitors will enjoy the guard mount before walking down in time to join the drumhead service marking D-Day at 1pm.

Paul Andreianu Chair of Windsor and Eton Rotary club, said: “We are so glad to incorporate the Armed Forces Day event as part of our successful summer fundraising event and provide a perfect setting for this joint event.”

Outgoing Royal Borough mayor and Armed Forces Champion,

Cllr Neil Knowles, said: “After a good few years of effort we’re now able to forge ahead with this event, and invite all veterans serving personnel, cadets and their families in the local area, to come to Windsor on Saturday, June 29 to enjoy our event in Alexandra

Gardens right next to the river.

“We’re doing this from a standing start so invite any veteran groups, re-enactors and those with military themed stalls to add to this event.

“Do come along and support both our forces community and Rotarians, Windsor is a long time Garrison town and we ought to celebrate this fact.”

Those who would like a stall on the day, military or civil can contact the Rotary club via: www.werotary.org/summer-fayre

Anyone wanting to bring along military vehicles and kit or a uniformed group/cadets to join the occasion are asked to email armed.forces@rbwm.gov.uk and include space and other requirements.
