Wet weather leads to venue switch for Berks’ Trophy clash with Devon

-

Berkshire CCC have switched the venue for their opening NCCA Trophy match against Devon this coming Sunday, writes Dave Wright.

The recent wet weather has left its mark at the Henley ground and the game has been moved to Wargrave.

Berkshire's season has started well, as they have qualified for the NCCA T20 Super 12s on May 19. They made sure of topping Group Three by defeating Bedfordshire by 117 runs at Ampthill on Monday.

Solid batting down the order from Henley's Matt Dalrymple (40), Josh Lincoln (38), Rhys Lewis (31) and Archie Carter (26) took Berkshire to

192-9 and Bedfordshire never got to grips with a challenging target.

Off-spinner Euan Woods took three for seven in his four overs, Yash Lakhani and Toby Greatwood each claimed two wickets as Beds were dismissed for 75, with 30 coming from Danyaal Khalid.

The second match at Ampthill was washed out.

But both games were completed when Berks played Bucks at the Falkland club in Newbury last Sunday, when each won a low-scoring match.

In the opener, Bucks' 119 in the opener proved to be the highest of the four innings and they needed 41 from George Harvey and 34 from Alexei Kervezee to get them there.

Berks were then shot out for 93 by Bucks skipper Tom Hampton who returned figures of 2.5-0-8-4.

The seamer has now joined Wokingham from champions High Wycombe.

In the second match, Bucks struggled, being dismissed for 84, with Wargrave's new signing Tommy Sturgess and Sulaiman Akhtar both taking three wickets. Berks eased to a seven wickets win with Henley opener Johnny Connell (32no) and Wargrave allrounder Euan Woods (25no) completing the job inside 12 overs.
