‘It’s natural that players will have caught the eye’

Rebels put out post-season statement following departures

-

Slough Town have put out a post-season statement following the departures of defenders Temi Eweka and Tyrese Dyce after the end of an impressive season for the Rebels.

Eweka and Dyce were two of the club's most consistent performers as the Rebels lifted themselves out of the relegation zone in the early months of the season to a 10th placed finish.

At one stage in the final months, the club were in the mix for a play-off finish and, while those hopes tailed off with some disappointing results in the final weeks of the season, it can't diminish the achievement of Scott Davies and his players.

After such a season, it's no surprise that the club's best players have received interest from other teams.

And with many of them on one year, or short, rolling contracts, a lot of those players - including midfielder Johnny Goddard - are keeping their options open with a view to staying put or moving on.

The club has also managed to convince several of this season's squad to stay on for next season, including club captain Josh Jackman Dan Bayliss, Leon

Chambers Parillon, David Ogbonna and Slavi Spasov, as well as Davies himself who has signed a new contract as player/manager.

Slough's statement this weekend said the following: “With the start of preseason training still almost two months away, discussions are well underway with members of our current playing squad, as well as potential new recruits.

“Following a successful 2023/24 campaign which included a top 10 finish, our highest ever points total in National League South and a run to the First Round of the FA Cup, several players are already contracted, or have committed to the club for the 2024/25 season – these are Dan Bayliss, Josh Jackman, Leon ChambersParillon, David Ogbonna and Slavi Spasov, as well as Scott Davies himself. We will confirm others as and when terms are agreed for the new season.

“It is natural that many of our players will have caught the eye of other clubs and particularly for those who are younger and ambitious, the lure of full time football, or stepping up to National League level will be too much to turn down, despite the progress we are making as a club on and off the field with the security of a long term lease at Arbour Park.

“Supporters will be aware that Temi Eweka has left the club in order to join a full-time professional club which is also nearer to his home. We can also confirm that Tyrese Dyce has decided to leave the club.”

On Tyrese's departure, Davies said: “Tyrese informed us that he will be departing and signed for a club in the National League at the weekend.

“From coming into the squad as a trialist last summer, he found a regular starting place in the team until his season was cut short by injury.

“We all thank Tyrese for what he’s given us during his time at the club and wish him well in the future.”

The club's membership packages for the 2024/25 season are also now on sale, and supporters are being encouraged to sign up or renew before the end of May to benefit from ‘early bird’ discounts.
