THE se­cret to a long life could be work­ing out up to five times a week.

Sci­en­tists say it can keep ar­ter­ies healthy by lim­it­ing stiff­en­ing – and it may even re­verse the age­ing process.

The US study fo­cused on peo­ple aged over 60 to find the op­ti­mal amount of ex­er­cise to keep “young”.

Prof Ben­jamin Levine, of the In­sti­tute for Ex­er­cise and En­vi­ron­men­tal Medicine, said the find­ings could help de­velop fit­ness regimes to “turn back time on older hearts”.
