A GRADE II listed bank on Colmore Row has been transformed into a stunning seafood and steak restaurant where diners can get into a ‘‘ New York state of mind’’.

Upscale eatery Jailbird has replaced American diner Nosh and Quaff in the beautiful bank, offering steak, lobster and a whole host of sides.

The restaurant makes the most of the building’s size, with the main dining area now upstairs where diners can enjoy views looking out on Victoria Square. The decor screams luxury with beautiful hanging lights, marble bar tops and splashes of greenery mimicking the exclusive restaurants of New York’s Upper East Side.

There’s even artwork of the New York skyline across the walls, letting diners immerse themselves in the Big Apple.

A statement bar upstairs uses alternating green and clear glass for a stunning effect – complementing the red, white and exposed brick interior adopted by Jailbird. The classy cocktail lounge downstairs tells another story, with stylish marble surfaces, colourful seating and beautiful hanging lights sitting seamlessly against an already gorgeous Grade II listed interior. This previously small bar has been moved to the other side of the room and is now substantially bigger, which should encourage more people in the city centre and business district to stop by for a drink.

Jailbird is certainly pitching to the luxury end of the market with its menu serving up king lobster (£ 49), Boston rib steak (£ 55) and classic surf and turf (£ 35).

Other dishes include starters such as black risotto with prawns (£ 8.95), scallops and bacon (£ 9.90), and salty ‘ n’ sweet caramel- glazed pork knuckle served with a freshly- baked sunflower & pumpkin seed loaf (£ 12.75). Owner Jabbar Khan, who also owns top Indian eatery Lasan and ran the previous restaurant Nosh and Quaff, said: “It has a cosmopolitan vibe where you can escape from the humdrum and get the New York state of mind.

“Jailbird has the classy, vibrant and opulent feel of a New York drinking and dining experience, with upscale seafood and steak in sumptuously stylish surroundings.”
