Curry house voted best takeaway in West Mids
IT has taken a year of cooking, months of adjudicating and weeks of voting, but the best takeaway in the West Midlands has finally been revealed.
The British Takeaway Awards, has announced the best takeaway in Birmingham for 2018 – and it is Chutney Express from Castle Bromwich.
The award completes a memorable three years for the takeaway. In September’s English Curry Awards 2018, Chutney Express won the award for The Takeaway and Home Delivery of the Year for West Midlands, having won the Best Takeaway Award at the Curry Awards in 2016.
It was also voted Best Local Curry House in Birmingham in the Birmingham Mail’s King of Curry Awards.
To win its latest award, Chutney Express overcame competition from four short- listed rivals to win the prize – including one from just across the Chester Road.
The West Midlands’ top five included three Indian takeaways and two chippies.
They included last year’s 2017 winning shop – Lime Pickle in Windleaves Road, not far from Chutney Express.
Also on the shortlist was Cafe Balti Birmingham – once again in the running having also made the top five in all four years of the competition. This year’s other two finalists from the West Midlands included Mr Chips from Stourbridge and another chippie called Fiddlers Elbow Fisheries from Leintwardine in north Herefordshire.
The West Midlands’ first Best Takeaway award winner in 2015 was won by The Kebab Shop in Dudley Road, Winson Green – when Cafe Balti, Lime Pickle and Chutney Express were also finalists.
Lime Pickle was the regional winner in 2016, when its prize money was used to put ten homeless people up in a hotel for Christmas, and then it won the regional and UK top prize last year in 2017.
The West Midlands region ( as defined by Just Eat) is one of 12 regions. They include the East Midlands, Greater Lon- don, Central London, North East, North West, Northern Ireland, Scotland, South East, South West, Wales and Yorkshire.
The regional winners were announced at the The Savoy hotel in London on November 12, 2018.
The judging panel included former Dragon’s Den star Sarah Willingham and Graham Corfield, UK Managing Director of Just Eat.
Mr Corfield said: “Making it to the list of the top five takeaways in the West Midlands is a great achievement. It means customers believe they are providing great food and excellent customer service.”
