Put an end to use of plastic packaging

Solihull News - - LETTERS & EMAILS -

AS consumers, every time that we purchase food and other items contained in plastic, we are having to pay to add to the profits of manufacturers and supermarkets.

We then have to pay a second time through our council tax to the Local Authority for removal of this plastic rubbish for “recycling”, much of which is actually burnt leading to the release of harmful gases into the atmosphere, added to landfill creating mountains of indestructible material or released into the sea leading to the formation of microplastic particles which cause pollution of the water supply and enter the human food chain with unknown consequences for our health.

As consumers, we need to put and end to this by telling manufacturers to stop creating so much plastic packaging and by refusing to buy it until biodegradable alternatives are produced. Mary Watson, Kings Norton
