TEACHERS were knocked to the ground and kicked after a fight erupted outside a Birmingham school

Police said the punch- up began at the school gates at Ninestiles Academy in Acocks Green.

Teachers had tried to break up the fracas on Monday afternoon.

Two staff members and a pupil were injured.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to reports of an assault at Ninestiles Academy in Hartfield Crescent, Acocks Green, at around 3.45pm on Monday.

“It is believed a fight started between a group of people at the school gates.

“When teachers tried to intervene, they were knocked over and kicked.

“Two staff members and a student were left with minor injuries.” No arrests were made. West Midlands Police confirmed the incident in a message circulated in the community asking for witnesses.

Officers also conducted extra patrols on Tuesday following ‘ recent incidents’.

In a message sent on Tuesday, PCSO John Ludford said: “Yesterday there was an incident at Ninestiles Academy, Hartfield Crescent, Acocks Green, where members of staff and pupils were assaulted.

“This occurred at approx. 3.40pm. If you were passing or in the area and saw anything of note can you please respond to this email accordingly. Regards John Ludford.”

The school made headlines earlier this year when it ordered pupils to walk the corridors in silence or face a 20- minute detention.

Ninestiles said it believed the rule would “support students arriving to lessons ready to learn”.

In a joint statement addressing concerns from parents recently, headteachers Alex Hughes and Andrea Stephens said: “Ninestiles is committed to the highest standards of behaviour and we know that students arriving to lessons ready to learn can be further supported by doing so in silence at certain points in the day.

“This is already an expectation for arrival at exams and during fire drills and, as such, is simply an extension of that code of behaviour.

“We will review this change at the end of Term 2.

“And the views of our students, parents and carers will be welcomed as part of that process.”

Anyone with information about Monday’s fight can call police on 101 quoting crime reference number 20BE/ 275749Z/ 18.
