Moors aren’t GUNNER take their eye off ball...
SOLIHULL’S FA Cup heroes put any thoughts of a possible head- to- head with PremierLeague giants Arsenal to the back of their minds as they saw off fellow National League high- fliers Harrogate Town.
The Moors will play host to the Gunners in the third round of the cup if they manage to beat Blackpool in next week’s replay but the Damson Park side were fully focussed on league points, bagging a goal in each half to lift them level on points with their third- placed visitors.
The game burst into life midway through the first half when chances went begging at both ends.
For Solihull, Danny Wright was denied by the upright on 25 minutes before having another effort blocked in front of goal. Kelvin Langmead was then denied for Harrogate when his header was brilliantly saved by Ryan Boot.
Moors made the breakthrough on 36 minutes and it was Alex Gudger with the goal, powering a header past keeper James Belshaw from a delightful Jamey Osborne corner.
The visitors upped their game after the break and twice went close to levelling only for Josh Falkingham and George Thomson to fire wide of the target.
But Solihull weathered the storm and finished the strong- er, rattling the post for a second time on 80 minutes through substitute Adi Yussuf.
And any slim hopes Harrogate had of taking a share of the points back to Yorkshire were ended five minutes from time when a trip on Osborne led to a Moors penalty which Yussuf duly tucked away under the diving Belshaw.
Moors’ FA Cup second round replay at Blackpool will take place on Tuesday December 18, with a kick off time of 7.45pm. The tie will be screened live on BT Sport 1, with the winners set to host Premier League side Arsenal in the third round.
The two sides couldn’t be separated in Friday’s clash at the Automated Technology Group Stadium in front of the BBC cameras, with the match ending goalless.
Third round ties are set to take place between January 4- 7.
Action from Tuesday night’s great win
