China in Somerset
An eight year partnership with China has seen a Somerset college commended with a British Council International Award.
Strode College’s link with the city of Yueyang was described as the best example of an effective and durable UK-China partnership.
Its work has been felt throughout the local community with around 30 primary and secondary schools involved in its special projects and international exchanges. Visits to China have taken place every year and Strode has also welcomed arrivals on a regular basis, from primary age children to senior leaders and head teachers. One of its notable achievements has been working with the University of Southampton to introduce Mandarin lessons to the county’s state schools.
Higher education and international manager, Adrian Ash says: “The partnership with Yueyang shows how international work delivered by a college can raise aspirations and improve the student experience across the wider community. It is an honour to have been commended by the British Council as this project truly reflects Strode College’s vision of ‘inspiring all to maximise their potential’.”
