Led by Lumière
A dancer who had a starring role in Disney’s recent film remake of Beauty and the Beast, has led a workshop with pupils at Millfield.
Andrew Chadwick, who danced the role of Lumière, has performed in various well-known musicals, including taking the lead part of Rusty in Starlight Express, Mungojerrie in Cats, Bobby C in Saturday Night Fever and the dance captain in Fame. He is currently in the lead role in the Disney musical Tarzan. As well as gaining an insight into his life as a professional dancer, pupils learned several musical theatre and commercial dance routines. More than 100 pupils take part in dance as part of the games programme at the school and classes are available in ballet, tap, modern, jazz, commercial, contemporary and musical theatre.
Millfield’s head of dance, Julie Boyd, says: “Meeting and working with such an accomplished dancer is truly inspiring for those who dream of dancing on the West End stage. I hope that this experience will drive more pupils to believe they can follow in Andrew’s footsteps and be part of incredible projects like Tarzan.”
