About this time 20 years ago, Cardiff was gearing itself up for the arrival of US mega superstars Bon Jovi. However, fans of the band didn’t have to wait that long as they arrived a week earlier to busk for fans at the Queen Street bandstand. Here is how

THOUSANDS of pop and rock fans blocked Cardiff’s shopping centre when American rock supergroup Bon Jovi swapped a stadium for a bandstand.

More then 4,000 fan from all over the country packed Queen Street to see them busking.

With tickets still on sale for next Wednesday’s concert ay Cardiff Arms Park, the band flew into Cardiff on their private jet for the 20- minute free show.

Next week, they are hoping to play before a sell- out crowd of 50,000 at the rugby ground, as singer Jon Bon Jovi greeted fans before flying back to London.

Can you imagine if One Direction had done something like this last week?

The fact that the band took the time to fly here and perform a quick set speaks volumes.

The band who were touring the These Days album, decided that on their only day off they should fly around the UK and play three quick shows.

These included Glasgow, Cardiff and then London – all on the same day.

In Cardiff people climbed trees just to get a view of the band.

The band have played Cardiff since then but nothing will be as special as the time Bon Jovi sang for their supper in the city centre.
