Football off to home of Welsh rugby
FOOTBALL veterans head to the home of Welsh rugby this weekend for a special charity match to boost the coffers of Stroke Wales.
Teams of over-40-yearold players representing North and West Wales will take on their South-East counterparts at the Principality Stadium on Sunday (2pm).
As well as Stroke Wales, other local charities will also receive donations from the match.
“Our oldest active player is former Cardiff City, Barry Town and Pontyclun player John Convery, who, despite a recent stroke, has fought his way back to a level of fitness that allows him to participate in regular training sessions and the occasional friendly game at 72 years of age,” said a Welsh Veterans spokesman.
“John was so pleased with the help and support that he received from Stroke Wales and the improvement in his condition that he readily approved of them being the nominated charity for Wales Veterans in 2016.
“Anyone wanting to attend the game is very welcome and admission is free for under-16s.
“Adults can buy a match programme for £5 from any player or at Gate Three or Four in Westgate Street on the day of the game.
“The programme also gives you a chance of a number of raffle prizes including a signed ‘Manchester United’ football and also entitles you to after-match food and festivities at The Bierkeller after the game.”
