THE people of Cardiff are prouder of where they live than those of any other major city in Britain, according to a new poll.
The characteristics of the community, which made people the most proud of the Welsh capital were “care and consideration” shown by local people.
It was followed by “community spirit” with 39.3% of people saying that was what made them proud of being a Cardiffian as well as the “honesty” that people show.
The poll of 2,000 people was carried out by OnePoll on behalf of TSB and revealed that as many as 44.6% of people from Cardiff said they were quite proud of the local community, with a further 16.1% saying they were very proud.
Some 21.4% said they were a little proud and only 17.9% said they were not proud at all.
Christian Amodeo, founder of I Loves The ’Diff, said: “It’s not surprising people here are proud of their city.
“Cardiff is quite unique. It’s a capital city but it has its own sense of place and its own character.
“The quality of life here is amazing and there are so many people from different backgrounds.
“There are very vibrant communities here with a tangible sense of community spirit.
“If somebody loses something there is a sense of people going out of their way to return things.”
On social media people of all ages are keen to talk about events going on in the Welsh capital and are very active when it comes to sharing stories and photos of what is going on in different areas.
One of the main answers in the poll as to what makes Cardiffians proud was the honesty, care and consideration of people living in the community.
Christian explained: “People tell it like it is here. They don’t dress up the truth and people are very straightforward. I feel Cardiff is like a big village and you meet people you know everywhere and constantly bump into old friends.
“I always get emails from people all over the world who are massively proud of Cardiff and who miss the place.”
The poll comes as TSB signed a five-year partnership with Trinity Mirror – publisher of the Echo – to support the Pride of Britain and Pride of Sport Awards.
Paul Pester, TSB’s chief executive, said: “Pride of Britain and Pride of Sport celebrate ordinary people who do extraordinary things in their local communities.
“It all stems back to local people helping local people.”
Peter Willis, founder of the Pride of Britain Awards and weekday editor of the Daily Mirror, added: “We at the Mirror are both delighted and excited to be partnering with TSB on Pride of Britain because they are so positively committed to the local communities in which they serve.”
