Students excel again at Cardiff Sixth Form College

-

ONE week on, Cardiff Sixth Form College (CSFC) looks back and reflects on its success. This year, an astonishing 99% of all grades were awarded at A*-B, reinforcing the college’s reputation as one of the UK’s leading A-level colleges. Remarkably, 25 students achieved at least 4A* with four of them being local students.

One student, Kam Hong (Linus) Cheung, from Hong Kong, managed to secure an astounding 5A*s and 2As. Two local students giving Linus ‘a run for his money’ were Alex Harrison and 2015/2016 head boy, Rory Xiao, who both obtained 4 A* in chemistry, further maths, maths and physics. Both boys are planning to continue their success at Cambridge University, Alex to study natural sciences at Emmanuel College and Rory to study engineering at Pembroke College.

Again this year, students will be going on to attend an impressive range of universities; 17 students going to the University of Cambridge, 16 to University College London (UCL), 13 to London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and 10 to Imperial College London. Between them, they will be joining some of the most competitive courses including medicine, engineering, law, and economics.

Among these students is local girl, Elinor Roderick, who is going on to study medicine at University College London, after achieving an amazing 4A*s. When talking about university and her plans for the future, Elinor can barely contain her excitement: “I hope to graduate medical school, and complete surgical training. I also hope to volunteer as a doctor for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), and help in global crises and natural disasters.” Going on to tell us “Studying medicine and becoming a doctor has been her dream since she was very young.”

Speaking about this year’s results, college co-founder, Ms Yasmin Sarwar remarked: “These results are a testament to the methodologies and educational philosophies in place at CSFC; a 21st century boarding college that unites students from more than 40 different nationalities to study together. We’ve upheld our position as ‘Britain’s Brainiest School,’ not just in terms of our academic results but also in relation to the array of university destinations and courses that our students are going on to attend.”

Students from the local area had certainly shown they can match the success of the international students as all of them achieved at least 1A*. Bradley Martin achieved 3A* and 1A. Looking forward to his future career in physics, Bradley tells us: “We truly understand so little about our universe and I wish to help unravel its mysteries.”

Thanks to the incredibly hardworking and multi-cultural environment he has been surrounded by at CSFC, Bradley will continue his strong work-ethic at Imperial College London, studying theoretical physics.
