The Voice contestant Jamie sings for patients

-

SEVERELY ill young patients at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital for Wales have been treated to a surprise performance by The Voice contestant Jamie Miller.

Jamie, who has now made it into the quarter-finals of the ITV singing competition, shocked patients and parents when he walked into the hospital’s play room yesterday morning.

The 19-year-old performed a cappella versions of Adele’s hit One and Only and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah before posing for pictures.

Some members of staff even stopped what they were doing for a couple of minutes to hear the talented teenager’s short set.

The former Corpus Christi High School pupil, who is on Jennifer Hudson’s team, said the past few weeks have been the most incredible of his life.

“It’s just been crazy. It’s the best kind of busy and I don’t want it to stop,” he said.

“I’m just a young boy from Cardiff, but to see some of my dreams and ambitions coming true is just incredible. I’ve been one-on-one with some of the most amazing people in the music industry and I couldn’t believe it when they stood up to applaud me.

“It’s so nice to come somewhere like the children’s hospital and perform. It makes me realise how much support I have and I’m so grateful to everyone for voting for me.”

Jamie progressed in the first live knock-out of the series last Saturday and is now in the next round with Mo Adeniran and Jack Bruley.

Speaking about the other contestants, he added: “We have become so close that I don’t think we see each as competition. Everyone is so talented.”

Selina Deakin, from Newport, whose 13-year-old son Kieran is receiving treatment at the children’s hospital, said: “This has made my day so much. He put a lump in my throat.

“I’ve followed his progress on The Voice and I think he should win it.

“The hospital has been absolutely fantastic ever since we were referred from the Royal Gwent. They cannot do enough for you.”

Linda Lewis, a hospital play specialist at the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital, said it was a “delight” to have Jamie as entertainment for the morning.

“He’s such a lovely person and a real role model. He put a smile on their faces.”
