BEST OF THE REST

LETHAL WEAPON ITV, 9pm

RIGGS (Clayne Crawford) is washed up on a beach tangled in seaweed, completely starkers – but fortunately not dead, as half the holiday-makers had believed.

And later, he picks a fight with a thug in a bar and gets himself beaten half to a pulp.

He’s a man in turmoil, and he’s got a death wish, which is not exactly endearing him to new partner Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) or Murtaugh’s wife Trish.

“A detective for 25 years and not a nick on you,” says Trish. “You’ve been partners with Riggs for three days and you’ve crashed two cars and nearly got shot.” She makes a valid point.

And their boss gives them a slapped wrist for already costing the city millions.

But there’s barely any time to argue as they are called to deal with a noise complaint. Music is blaring as dozens of bikini-clad party-goers drink cocktails by a pool.

But suddenly a man takes out half the guests with a machine gun and the cop duo are drawn into a major case.

THE GADGET SHOW Channel 5, 7pm

AFTER 25 series, this consumer technology show was definitely in need of an upgrade. And so off it went for a facelift, returning now with a new look, a new home, some new faces – and so we’re told, a new attitude.

Red Dwarf and Corrie actor Craig Charles joins technical journalist Georgie Barrat as the newbies, teaming up with old-timers Jon Bentley and Ortis Deley.

Craig anchors the series from a new studio base in Birmingham, with each episode recorded just days before broadcast to keep up with the times.

Kicking off his Gadget Show residence tonight, Craig unboxes a brand new Nintendo Switch, the much hyped new games console, just a week after its worldwide launch.

Georgie begins a series-long challenge in which she endeavours to see if gadgets can improve the performance of an amateur football team hovering near the bottom of Division Two.

And Jon finds out how snappy Samsung’s new 360 camera is by testing it out at a ‘wall of death’, filming motorcycles whizzing round a vertical wall at 40mph.
