ARCADE SHOCK FOR SHOPKEEPER
AN OPTICIAN’S assistant has spoken about her shock at seeing two women urinating right outside her shop window in one of Cardiff’s historic arcades.
Claire Fleming, who works for independent family-run Specs 4 Less Opticians, watched in horror as the grim act unfolded outside the Royal Arcade shop in the middle of the afternoon.
She described seeing one of the women hand a can of alcohol to a man who was with them and then the two dropped their trousers, crouched down and started to urinate.
“I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,” said Claire, who has worked in the Royal Arcade for three years.
“I was worried it was going to be more than urinating and have never seen anything like it ever before.
“I took a picture because I knew people wouldn’t believe it if I told them.”
She said the two women initially tried to walk off without pulling their trousers up – and only did so when they realised they couldn’t walk.
“The man handed back the can to the woman as if it was perfectly normal and they carried on.
“I have never seen anything like it in my whole life.
“It was appalling to think that they were in such a state they did that in the middle of the day with people walking around.
“It is a busy arcade and is in full view of St Mary Street.”
They had to bring in a cleaner to clean the front of the shop.
Claire got in touch with us after reading about a police appeal to locate someone who defecated in a train station lift.
As reported in yesterday’s Echo, police appealed for information after the incident at Ystrad Mynach train station.
After the Royal Arcade incident, a spokesman for South Wales Police said: “Anybody who witnesses such an act of public indecency should contact the police immediately so the individuals concerned can be apprehended and dealt with.
“Cardiff ’s vibrant city centre is a place for everyone to enjoy and behaviour like this is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.”
