Man tried to entice schoolgirl into car
PARENTS of children at a Cardiff school have been warned about a man who tried to entice a girl into his car.
The incident happened outside Whitchurch High School on Wednesday morning.
Police say an investigation is under way into what they are treating as a “suspicious” incident – and they have reassured parents that patrols in the area have increased.
A letter from the school went out to parents saying a middle-aged man in a small, silver family saloon car tried to “encourage” one of the female pupils into his car.
The letter, from assistant head teacher Steve Hodnett, said: “We would like to raise awareness of a serious incident that occurred adjacent to the school on Wednesday.
“A middle-aged gentleman in a small silver family saloon attempted to encourage a young female student to get into his car. The car was parked in Manor Rise close to the subway underpass.
“The incident was immediately reported to the police by the school and parents, the police are presently investigating the incident.
“Can we ask parents to remind students that they should refrain from engaging in conversation with adults they do not know unless parents are present?”
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “An investigation is ongoing to identify that person and establish the circumstances surrounding what happened, and patrols in the area have been increased.
“We would urge the unknown motorist involved in the incident to come forward to explain his actions.”
Any further suspicious incidents should be reported to 101.
