Easter weekend set to be a sizzler
TEMPERATURES are expected to soar in South Wales over Easter with bookies slashing the odds on it being the hottest spring bank holiday weekend ever.
William Hill has cut the odds to 8-1 for this Easter beating the record following the warmest weekend of the year so far.
The current record was set in 2011 when the mercury hit 27.8°C.
It’s still too early to predict temperatures for the April bank holiday, but the Met Office anticipates it will be hotter than usual.
Mothers’ Day was the hottest day of the year so far, with temperatures in South Wales higher than popular holiday spots like Turkey, Spain and Portugal over the weekend.
Though it was a frosty start for most of the country, Cardiff basked in 16°C heat compared to 14°C in Barcelona, 12°C in parts of Turkey and 13°C in Lisbon, Portugal.
The weather this week will be more subdued, turning unsettled today through to Friday.
Rain will be heavy and thundery as it spreads across Wales today.
From tomorrow onwards, there will be showers or longer spells of rain with some sunny breaks, although it will be quite breezy.
Met Office spokeswoman Emma Sharples said temperatures will climb again after a cool period in the week before Easter.
But some parts of Britain will continue to deal with short-lived bouts of rain and strong winds.
Ms Sharples said: “Our latest longrange forecast suggests there will be a north-south split.
“The south will see dry and settled weather but further north there will be periods of rain at times, with temperatures likely to be warmer than average.”
While the temperature is expected to be warmer than usual, some nights will be chilly with frost and fog in places.
