Anger as rubbish is fly-tipped

-

A FLY-TIPPER dumped “disgusting” rubbish all over a road near a South Wales Valleys community.

Black bin bags littered the area along an otherwise picturesque road in Rhymney that leads to Asda and Jepsons Pond after Rumney Bridge.

Among the rubbish was a huge range of children’s toys including newlooking Mickey and Minnie Mouse dolls and baby toys.

There was also far more unsavoury trash that stretched for about 150m along the road that runs parallel to the Heads of the Valleys.

This included used nappies as well as adult toys.

The dumped rubbish was discovered by Eddy Blanche at 9am on Saturday. He said: “Caerphilly County Borough Council did a great job of clearing it up. I called them and they sent someone up to get it out of the road and by lunchtime Sunday they had come back and cleared it all.”

Mr Blanche posted his photos on Facebook and it sparked a furious response from local people.

Susan Jones said: “Absolutely disgusting, what is wrong with these people, why don’t they just take it to the skips?”

This was echoed by Kirsty Jane Llewellyn who said: “Absolutely disgusting! And, what’s more, so much of that could have been donated to the less fortunate!”

Sian Thomas said: “What I don’t get is, they have to put it in the car to dump stuff in these places, if it’s in the car already just take it to the local skip?”

Other people were asking whether there was any way to identify and prosecute the fly-tipper.

Robert Stephens said: “It would be a dirty job to carry out but I’m sure there would be an identity somewhere amongst all that rubbish. On the other hand, someone somewhere would have seen this being loaded up before it was dumped.”

A council spokeswoman for Caerphilly County Borough Council said: “Fly-tipping is a serious environmental crime, which has a real detrimental impact on our countryside. It also costs the council a significant sum of money each year to clean up fly-tipped waste such as this, which is undoubtedly money which could be far better spent on other things.

“All residents and businesses have a legal responsibility to ensure that household and commercial waste is disposed of in a legal and proper manner.”
