YOURS Mandy goes back to her old school with book

-

LAST week an author returned to her old school, where her literary career began 35 years ago.

Mandy Aubrey-Burden was invited to run two workshops at her old secondary school Willows High School in Cardiff last week.

The author last stepped foot in the school back in 1981 where she had written a play for the end of year production, entitled Devil’s Messiah.

However, the project was never finished as she left school never to return, until now. Mandy said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to share not only my deep sea dive into the literary world, but also to be able to go back to where it all started and hopefully give any aspiring young writers some encouragement.”

Her book is a modern-day paranormal supernatural tale of good versus evil set in a tiny Welsh village and features teenagers amongst the characters, as it does more senior members of the community.

The book also touches on social issues such as bullying, discrimination and the challenges faced when presented with difficult choices.

Mandy thanked the staff and students who made her visit a pleasure. She said she was impressed with pupils’ engagement during the workshops and they were genuinely interested in her book and the history behind it.
