DRIVER ADMITS CAUSING MUM’S DEATH IN CRASH
BRICKLAYER PLOUGHED INTO MOTHER OF TWO’S CAR, LEAVING HER WITH ‘DEVASTATING AND FATAL INJURIES’
A BRICKLAYER has admitted causing the death of a mother of two in a car crash as she pulled out of a petrol station.
Jamie Oaten, 23, ploughed his Audi A5 into the side of a car belonging to Jenna Miller.
It left her with “devastating and fatal injuries”.
Ms Miller, 30, had just refuelled her blue Mazda 6 when the black Audi collided with her on Cardiff Road in Barry.
Amateur rugby player Oaten appeared at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday to plead guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.
Another man, Joseph Fettah, 19, also appeared in the dock but entered a not guilty plea to the same charge.
Prosecutor Matthew Cobb said Fettah will go to trial on the charge.
Recorder of Cardiff Judge Eleri Williams said Oaten would be sentenced upon the outcome of Fettah’s trial in October. Both men were granted bail. Oaten, from Barry, and Fettah, from nearby Rhoose, were arrested following an appeal by South Wales Police after Ms Miller died from her injuries.
Firefighters used cutting equipment to free Ms Miller from her car outside the Texaco petrol station at 9.25pm on September 27 last year.
She died from her injuries in hospital and an inquest into her death was adjourned pending any criminal proceedings.
Her devastated family released a tribute following her death describing Ms Miller, from Barry, as “happy go lucky”.
The tribute said: “Jenna was a wonderful and much loved wife, mum, daughter and granddaughter.
“We cannot believe we have lost such a beautiful, kind and caring person.
“Everybody who knew her is numb.
“Jenna was mum to two wonderfully polite boys aged six and 10. They were her world.
“We will never forget Jenna’s infectious and wicked sense of humour. The best way to describe her was ‘happy go lucky.’”
